My Projects
My Apprenticeship At Christie’s
At the beginning of this academic year I decided to embark on the beginning of my career journey as an apprentice at Christie’s. Although I was apprehensive about choosing to do an apprenticeship over attending university, I have learnt so much in the short months at Christie’s I feel my experiences are invaluable. For anyone unsure whether the apprenticeship route is right for them, I hope you will find this blog post useful.
As a global company there are more departments than anyone could think of – one of the things I was most surprised about was the number of apprentices in my cohort! With around 30 apprentices, there is a department for everyone to thrive in – whether you are an art enthusiast or not. I am very passionate about art so it has been a great privilege to see a countless amounts of it fill our gallery spaces.
Reflecting on my experience at Christie’s so far, I have refined
a list of my favourite aspects of my apprenticeship:
Learning from Industry Experts – working alongside experienced professionals provides a unique opportunity to learn from their expertise. Possessing in-depth knowledge about their field – from art valuation, curation, marketing, sales strategies and much more – their guidance and mentorship can significantly enhance your understanding of the art market and help develop valuable skills.
Practical Experience – An apprenticeship offers hands-on experience in a real-world setting. Treated equally to all other employees, you will have the chance to apply your knowledge and skills directly to tasks. Christie’s is a great place to start your career journey as they invest so many resources into your personal development. Not only do you learn from your apprenticeship tutor and manager, Christie’s has a Learning & Development team who dedicates several sessions targeted specifically for apprentices which are extremely insightful and useful.
Exposure to Diverse Artworks – Being surrounded by art on a daily basis exposes you to a wide range of artistic styles, mediums, and periods. This exposure can expand your artistic horizons, deepen your understanding of art history, and help you develop a discerning eye for quality and value. Additionally, encountering diverse artworks can inspire your own artistic creativity and encourage you to explore new artistic directions.
Networking Opportunities – Working at Christie’s puts you in contact with various professionals and art enthusiasts, including collectors, artists, curators, and gallery owners. Building relationships with these individuals can be beneficial for your future career prospects. Networking can open doors to new opportunities, collaborations, and mentorship connections that may prove invaluable as you progress in the art industry.
Career Advancement – An apprenticeship at a prestigious art auction house in London can serve as an excellent stepping stone for future career advancement. The reputation and connections of the auction house can enhance your credibility in several different industries, increasing your chances of securing desirable positions in amazing companies – such as working for top galleries, museums, art consultancy firms, or even starting your own art-related venture. The experience gained during the apprenticeship can also bolster your resume and set you apart from other candidates.
One of my favourite parts of working at Christie’s is the exposure to auction dynamics. Working within an auction house provides firsthand experience with the intricacies of the auction process. You’ll witness the excitement and dynamics of live auctions, including the strategies employed by bidders and the competitive nature of acquiring artworks. This exposure can deepen your understanding of the market forces that drive art prices and the strategies used to maximize sales, making you well-equipped to navigate the auction world.
Lastly, the cultural enrichment you experience simply from working in London. Renowned for its vibrant art scene, with numerous galleries, museums, and cultural events you are able to immerse yourself in this rich artistic atmosphere. You can attend art exhibitions, explore world-class museums, and engage with a diverse artistic community. This exposure not only enhances your cultural understanding but also provides inspiration and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Overall, an apprenticeship at Christie’s presents a range of positive aspects. You can learn from industry experts, gain practical experience, immerse yourself in art, expand your professional network, lay the foundation for a successful career, and enjoy the cultural richness of the city. I would highly recommend anyone to apply for an apprenticeship at Christie’s as amazing experience and investment into your future.
Using SEO's For A Corporate Company
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is a critical marketing
strategy for companies of all sizes as it can help companies maintain a
competitive edge in any industry. SEO is a way of optimising a website and
content to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). In this essay, I
will discuss the benefits of using SEO for a corporate company, such as
Christie’s, and how it can be effectively implemented.
It is important to understand how using SEO is beneficial to
companies. The primary benefit is that it increases visibility. With SEO, a
company can rank higher in search engine results pages, which means that more
people will find their website when searching for relevant keywords. This
increased visibility can lead to more traffic, more leads, and more sales.
Additionally, it can also give a company a competitive edge. If a company’s
website is ranking higher than its competitors’ websites, it is more likely to
attract potential customers. This competitive advantage can translate into
increased revenue and market share.
SEO can also help a corporate company attract targeted
traffic. By optimizing a website for specific keywords, a company can attract
visitors who are interested in their products or services. This targeted
traffic is more likely to convert into leads and sales than random visitors who
stumble upon the website. Keywords can be used in both short and long form
content and can be effective in different ways. Short form content is often
more shareable and can attract a wider audience, while long form content can be
more comprehensive and valuable to readers. The choice of whether to use short
or long form content depends on the type of content, the audience, and the
goals of the website.
From my apprenticeship course, I have learnt that using SEO
is a cost-effective marketing strategy. While it may require an initial
investment of time, the long-term benefits of SEO can outweigh the costs.
Unlike paid advertising, which requires ongoing investment, SEO can continue to
drive traffic and leads for months or even years after the initial investment.
If I was going to implement SEO for Christie’s, I would
begin by conducting keyword research. Keyword research involves identifying the
keywords and phrases that potential customers are using to search for products
or services in the company’s industry. Once these keywords have been
identified, they can be used to optimise the website’s content and structure.
After this has been implemented, I will start on-page optimisation which involves
optimising a website’s content and structure to make it more attractive to
search engines. This can include elevating page titles, meta descriptions,
headers, and body content for the target keywords. It can also involve changing
the website’s structure to make it easier for search engines to crawl and index
the content. As well as on-page optimisation, I would also do off-page
optimization. This involves building backlinks to a website from other authoritative
websites in the same industry. Backlinks are an important ranking factor in
search engine algorithms, and building high-quality backlinks can help a
website rank higher in search engine results pages. The backlinks I would
include relate to art, auctionhouse, technology, real estate, dealing and
buying art and more.
Local SEO is an important strategy for companies with
physical locations as it helps them appear in local search results. This can
include creating a Google My Business listing, building local citations, and
optimizing the website’s content for local keywords.
Finally, it is important to track and analyse SEO efforts.
This can be done using tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
By tracking metrics like website traffic, keyword rankings, and conversion
rates, a corporate company can measure the effectiveness of its SEO efforts and
make adjustments as needed.
In conclusion, SEO is a critical marketing strategy for
corporate companies that want to maintain a competitive edge in their industry.
By increasing visibility, attracting targeted traffic, and providing a
cost-effective marketing strategy, SEO can help a corporate company achieve its
business goals. To implement SEO effectively, a corporate company like
Christie’s should conduct keyword research, prioritise content and structure,
build high-quality backlinks, implement local SEO strategies, and track and
analyse results. With a well-executed SEO strategy, a corporate company can
achieve long-term success in the digital landscape.
